Supporting best practices in environmental protection

Supporting best practices in environmental protection

Environmental degradation threatens developmental achievements, impacting both current livelihoods and the wellbeing of future generations. Human activities and natural disasters continue to diminish habitats, increase vulnerability, and erode sustainable growth.

We actively champions initiatives designed to sustain and protect our environment. By embedding environmental responsibility into our operations and programmes, we aim to safeguard Kenya’s natural resources and ecosystems.

Initiatives under this pillar include:

  • Waste Minimisation: Promoting the ‘3Rs’ approach—Reduce, Reuse, Recycle—by recycling shredded paper, reusing envelopes, and maintaining an inventory for efficient internal asset redistribution.
  • Emission Reduction: Supporting our clients in transitioning towards a low-carbon economy through financing renewable energy and energy-efficient projects.

We maintain transparent relationships with regulators and partner with industry members, government agencies, environmental bodies, suppliers, and communities to achieve high environmental standards.

Goal

Enhance environmental sustainability by strengthening plans addressing climate change, energy conservation, and water resource management.

Objectives

Objectives

  • Promote the adoption of renewable energy technologies (biomass digesters, solar energy, etc.) to reduce environmental degradation, especially in rural communities.
  • Encourage safe, sustainable, and efficient waste management practices.
  • Facilitate networking and knowledge-sharing on best practices from national and international sustainability and carbon reduction groups.

Impact Highlights

Through our work in the solar-powered greenhouse initiative with Energias de Portugal (EDP) and the Jenga Rider program, we not only increase awareness of renewable energy, but also make it more accessible. In the first program, with the support of EDP, we set up solar-powered equipment for greenhouses across seven high schools in Isiolo, Kwale and Marsabit.

As part of Jenga Rider training, we held sensitization seminars for e-mobility and invited different organisation to showcase the opportunities available. The entire program targeted 3500 beneficiaries.

We have supported various afforestation initiatives over the years, most recently by planting 3000 seedlings with South Eastern Kenya University.
